its possible you are using some default settings in your config file
if you are lagging in the game and wondering how to fix it,, or you need to change a few things but dont know what
if this is the case try these steps first

open with wordpad the uoconfig_mp.cfg located in the call of duty folder
(example: C:\Program Files\Call of Duty\ug)
inside you will see a bunch of configs underneth were it says
// generated by Call of Duty, do not modify, (NOTE: dont worry about that part you can modify this file)
the only configs you need to change are the following, it will help to use the wordpad find function to help locate them

The following is the setting codes you can choose one of the following for the next configs
"0" off
"1" Simple FPS Display
"2" Verbose FPS Display
"3" Time FPS Display
seta cg_drawFPS "1" Shows your Frames Per Second on the screen if it low details on how to try and fix are below


The following is the setting codes you can choose one of the following for the next configs
"0" On
"1" Off
seta cg_lagometer "1" Shows if your game is lagging or how much lag you are having
seta cl_allowDownload "1" Allows you to download maps and mods from other servers (NOTE: most servers will require this be on)
seta cl_punkbuster "1" Turns on Punkbuster
seta cl_wwwDownload "1" Allows your game to download from a offsite, most likely a website the maps ands mods are stored (NOTE: most servers will require this be on)
seta sv_allowDownload "1" Same as above accept it will download directly from the game server itself and not on a offsite

The following is the color codes you can choose for the next configs
^0 is black
^1 is red
^2 is green
^3 is yellow
^4 is blue
^5 is teal
^6 is purple
^7 is white
^8 is pink
^9 is gray
seta name "Unknown" Changes your name in the game you can use colors in your name by adding the color codes


FPS AND LAG TIPS
seta cl_maxpackets "100" dependng on your connectiong speeds is what you should set this too, this is set for cable,DSL speeds
seta com_hunkmegs "128" this is the default it should be half of what your ram speed is, (example you have 1 GB of ram your seta com_hunkmegs will be 512 it will look like this seta com_hunkmegs "512") if you dont want it that high you can lower it to 256
seta com_maxfps "125" can be raised or lowered depending on your video card, 125 should be enough
seta rate "25000" sets the rate of the game 25000 should be enuff to have decent game play

Console commands same as above just you can use the console by pressing the ~ key in the game to drop down the console
/cg_drawFPS 0
/cg_drawFPS 1
/cg_drawFPS 2
/cg_drawFPS 3
/cl_maxpackets 100
/set com_hunkmegs 128

Punkbuster Sleep setting
\pb_sleep 500 (tells punkbuster client software to wait longer before awakening and sending info to PB)
\pb_writecfg (makes the above setting permanent so you don't have to do it each time you log in)
